Washington Mayor Dave Rhoads told the City Council that a contractor had contacted his office with a proposal for a 52 unit apartment complex similar to projects proposed by two Ohio based developers last year. The Mayor said he would schedule time for the contractor to present his proposal to the Council.
At the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, the board awarded the the contract for the construction of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements. The improvements include state mandated phosphorus removal improvements and new lab facilities. The Board had received five bids at the last meeting which were taken under advisement. After examining the bids, Richard Burch of Midwest Engineers recommended that the construction contract be awarded to Arc Construction of Evansville with a bid of $ 1,265,000. Burch noted that the bid was well below the original estimate for the project.
Last night’s regular meeting was again held over a conference call. The Mayor, Clerk-Treasurer and Council President were at the council chambers while the other council members and media were on the phone.
Mayor Rhoads said that the next Council meeting would return to regular form in the Council Chambers. The Mayor said the City will still be careful about the number of people permitted to attend. Department heads will still wait until July to attend Council meetings unless their attendance is necessary to items being discussed. The Mayor said that items that may attract a more than normal interest would continue to be pushed to future agendas.
