After being closed for over four months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Daviess County Museum in Washington, IN has announced it plans to begin reopening to the public on Wednesday, July 22nd. Initially, the museum will be available on Wednesdays from 11 AM until 3 PM with certain restrictions in place for staff and guests.
Museum Director Becky Kremp says they are excited about reopening but many regular volunteers remain at risk and unable to work, so they will operate on reduced hours for awhile.
Volunteer staff will be wearing masks and using sanitizer between every tour. Guests will also be asked to use the provided hand sanitizer before entering the gallery. The museum is also requiring visitors to wear masks inside the building, and to delay attending if they are feeling sick or have been around someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days.
Museum volunteers will be giving tours by appointment and only one group/individual will be touring at a time. Appointments are encouraged to avoid waiting. Visitors should call ahead at (812) 257-0301 or (812) 698-1510.
The DCHS Board has also declared that the museum has temporarily suspended receiving new donations of physical artifacts from the public, although digital submissions of projects related to COVID-19 are encouraged at the museum’s email at dchistory@sbcglobal.net.
