Steve Bouchie

Steve Bouchie passed away Sunday afternoon due to complications from a heart attack he suffered on July 4.
Bouchie, age 59, was a Washington Township farmer and had served on the Washington Community School Board for more than ten years.   But Steve Bouchie was also one of the basketball icons of the State of Indiana.  After a record setting career for the Washington Hatchets, Bouchie was named Mr. Basketball in 1979.  He was named a Parade All-American.   He then played for Coach Bob Knight at Indiana University where he was a part of three Big 10 Championships and the 1981 NCAA National Champions.  Steve was a 4th round draft choice of the NBA’s Detroit Piston.   Bouchie played professionally in Italy until a hand injury ended his career.   He was widely considered to be one of the best basketball players to come out of southwestern Indiana.  In 2009 Steve Bouchie was inducted into the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
But most of all, Steve Bouchie was known as a quiet and humble man, a hard working farmer, and husband, father, and grandfather, respected by his community.
