The Indiana State School Music Association has cancelled the fall marching band season.
ISSMA alerted schools on Wednesday that the organization’s competition season — which includes regional, semistate and state finals events — would be canceled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. As schools told their students and families, the news started to trickle out onto social media, devastating the often tight-knit marching band community.
For many students, marching band and the ISSMA competitions are a big part of their high school experience. The state finals are held at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis and are hotly contested.
A formal announcement of the cancellation is expected this afternoon.
