The Washington Police Department has released a statement regarding the enforcement of Governor Holcomb’s mask mandate. The Washington Police Department announced yesterday the refusal or failure to wear a mask in public starting Monday July 27th does not constitute a crime or an enforceable action by the police. Any calls or complaints about individuals not wearing a mask or businesses not requiring patrons to wear a mask, should be directed to the County or State Health Departments and Agencies.
Officers of the Washington Police Department will not be dispatched for the sole purpose of responding to those who fail to wear a mask or refuse to wear a mask in public spaces. Washington PD asks that whether you support or oppose the Governor’s decision, to please be respectful and diplomatic when addressing another person about mask concerns.
In addition, any business or organization may refuse service to any individuals who refuse to wear a mask. Failure to leave the business or organization when asked, could be treated as Criminal Trespass with legal consequences.
The Washington Police Department states they understand that these are trying times and would like to thank the public for their cooperation.
