The Washington FC Blitz is coming back to Washington Soccer. The Washington Soccer Federation has announced that the newly formed select soccer league sign ups are underway now and Monty Critchlow with the Soccer Federation says it will consists of Washington players and some from Knox County. Rec League will still be held this fall, this is just a little more competitive to sharpen players skills to the next level. The Annual Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing is set for Thursday at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. The 18 hole scramble will feature prizes and over 100 golfers from the community. Lunch starts at 11:30am, with the scramble to follow. The Indiana Pacers take on the San Antonio Spurs Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. from the NBA’s bubble in Orlando in their final scrimmage before the season resumes. Indiana is 2-0 in scrimmages thus far after beating the Trail Blazers and Mavericks. The Pacers will restart the season Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers. Both teams are 39-26, and the Pacers currently hold the tiebreaker for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Indianapolis Colts report to training camp today at the Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center on the west side of Indianapolis. Camp is being at the team’s headquarters instead of at Westfield’s Grand Park because the NFL directed teams to not travel away from team facilities for camp. Players will be tested for COVID-19 when they report and will have to pass three tests before being cleared. After players are cleared, they will be allowed to enter the team’s facility to begin strength and conditioning training.
The Chicago Cubs got five no-hit innings from starting pitcher Jon Lester and held on for an 8-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ballpark. Joey Votto lined out to centerfield with the bases loaded to end the game after the Reds trailed 8-5 entering the 9th. In Cleveland, the White Sox and Indians were postponed due to rain and will play a doubleheader Tuesday. White Sox manager Rick Renteria will rejoin the team after receiving a negative test for COVID-19. He had dealt with a slight cough and nasal congestion and stayed away from the team as a precaution.
IndyCar officially announced Monday that the September 13th race at Portland and a doubleheader at Laguna Seca a week later have been canceled. The series also announced that a trio of race weekends in August have been turned into doubleheaders to add more races to the schedule. The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will host a doubleheader August 8th and 9th, and then World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway will host a race on both August 29th and 30th. The Harvest Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will also feature two races October 2nd and 3rd.
Multiple Indiana colleges found out they would not be playing some sports this fall. The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced it will be suspending football, volleyball and soccer until the spring semester. The Division 2 conference includes the University of Indianapolis and the University of Southern Indiana. Division 3 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the same plan. The HCAC includes Anderson University, Earlham College, Franklin College, Hanover College, Manchester University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
