The Rumbach family has owned and published the The Herald in Dubois County for 100 years, but due to major disruptions to the newspaper industry, the family has decided to sell the paper.
The Herald announced that starting August 1st, the Paxton family will take over as the owners and publishers of the newspaper. The Paxton family publishes multiple newspapers across the Midwest and Southwest, including the Vincennes Sun Commercial and the Princeton Clarion. Paxton Media headquarters are located in Paducah, Kentucky.
The family stated they just did not have enough advertising revenue or subscribers to keep publishing a quality paper. They stated selling the paper was the only way to uphold the quality that readers have come to know. They also stated over the last couple of years they have explored a variety of different options until making the decision to sell earlier this year. The global pandemic also pushed that ultimate decision.
The Rumbach family said they would like to thank all who have worked and supported The Herald and local journalism throughout the years and say it’s been an honor to have been a part of Dubois County history.
