The Indiana High School Athletic Association has revealed COVID-19 guidelines for all schools that will participate in fall sports, including the restrictions on fans. The IHSAA says fans will be allowed to attend events this fall, but each set of bleachers will be capped at 50% capacity or 250 people, whichever comes first. Families will be able to sit together, but must be six feet away from another family. Each school may still enforce its own stricter guidelines, if their county sees fit. Student-athletes who remain on the sidelines should wear a mask. If a school must cancel a contest because of coronavirus, it will not be considered a “forfeit” but rather a “no contest.”

Washington will be hosting a scrimmage at Hatchet Hollow next Saturday, and the opening game of the 2020 season will be at home against Boonville on August 21st. Washington will be having a black and gold intrasquad scrimmage at the field tonight, before hosting a scrimmage with North Posey next Saturday at Hatchet Hollow. Purdue football star Rondale Moore is opting out of the 2020 season and will enter the 2021 NFL Draft. The All-American wide receiver announced on Twitter he is on track to graduate in December and said that opting out of the season is the best decision for him and his family given the unprecedented circumstances. The New Albany native was a unanimous All-American in 2018 as a freshman, but his sophomore year came to an abrupt end when he suffered a season ending leg injury in Purdue’s fourth game of the season.
For the first time in 94 years, Notre Dame and Navy will not play each other in football. The Atlantic Coast Conference released its updated 2020 schedule Thursday, and Notre Dame’s lone non-conference game comes September 19th when the Fighting Irish host Western Michigan. Notre Dame is joining the ACC as a full member for 2020, and will play 10 ACC foes. The Fighting Irish open the season at home against Duke September 12th.
Jose Ramirez hit two home runs and tripled, driving in four runs for Cleveland in a 13-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds Thursday night at Progressive Field. The Indians scored 10 runs in the seventh inning to break the game open, and the inning was capped off by Ramirez’s second homer of the game. In Kansas City, the Royals defeated the Cubs 13-2 to snap a six-game Cubs winning streak. On the South Side of Chicago, the White Sox dropped an 8-3 decision to the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Phoenix Suns defeated the Indiana Pacers 114-99 Thursday in Orlando, snapping the Pacers’ three-game winning streak since arriving in Florida. Indiana plays the the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday.
