The Washington Junior High Football teams wrapped up their season with a pair of wins last night at Hatchet Hollow over Mt Vernon. The Hatchet 7th grade ends another unbeaten season with a 10 to 8 win over the Wildcats. While Washington’s 8th graders also posted a 12 to 8 win. Congratulations to the Jr High Hatchets for a great season.
The Los Angeles Dodgers scored four runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 8-3 in Game 1 of the World Series from Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Cody Bellinger got the Dodgers on the board with a two-run home run in the fourth inning. L.A. added four runs in the fifth inning to take control. Clayton Kershaw earned the win after striking out eight and giving up one run over six innings. Game 2 is tonight at 8:08 p.m. Eastern.
The Indiana Pacers have hired Toronto Raptors assistant Nate Bjorkgren (BEE-ork–Gren) as the team’s new head coach. The 45-year-old Bjorkgren spent the last two seasons as an assistant under Nick Nurse with the Raptors, including winning an NBA title in 2019. Before that, he was an assistant with the Phoenix Suns for two seasons. He is an Iowa native and previously coached in the G League, the NBA’s developmental league. Bjorkgren replaces Nate McMillan, who was fired after the Pacers were swept out of the playoffs in the first round by the eventual Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat.
Stewart-Haas Racing officially announced Tuesday that Chase Briscoe will move up to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2021. The Mitchell, Indiana native will will replace Clint Bowyer in the number 14 Ford, after Bowyer announced he will retire from full-time racing and become an analyst for Fox Sports next year. The 25-year-old Briscoe has won nine races this season for Stewart-Haas in the Xfinity Series and is already locked in to be one of the four drivers to compete for the championship next month. Briscoe said that his boss Tony Stewart was his childhood hero and that it’s surreal to become the driver of the number 14 car.
