The girls basketball season got underway last night with a few games in the area.

Wisconsin announced Tuesday that its football game this weekend against Purdue has been canceled and team activities remain paused indefinitely because of the number of positive coronavirus cases within the program. The Badgers originally canceled the game against Nebraska on Oct. 31, after the program had 12 positive tests, That number of positive cases then rose to 22, made up of 12 players and 10 staff members. Athletic director Barry Alvarez initially announced the team would pause football activities for seven days on Oct. 28, but now says it will be indefinite as the program deals with the outbreak and it is canceling its second game with no plans to reschedule.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially activated Antonio Brown from the suspended list on Tuesday, the team announced. Coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday that Brown will have a role in Sunday night’s game against the New Orleans Saints. The Buccaneers signed Brown last week to a one-year deal for a base salary of $750,000, with incentives that could push the value to $2.5 million. Brown concluded an eight-game suspension for multiple violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy and was permitted to work out with the Buccaneers’ strength and conditioning staff and attend meetings. He was not allowed to practice with the team.
After Mookie Betts made spectacular play after spectacular play in the postseason — including two home run robberies and a key catch of a sinking liner in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series — it should come as no surprise that Betts is the National League Gold Glove winner for right field. In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Betts claimed his fifth consecutive Gold Glove Award after winning four with the Boston Red Sox.
Former college football coach Tommy Tuberville has recaptured a U.S. Senate seat for Republicans by defeating Sen. Doug Jones in Alabama. Tuberville spent 21 seasons as a college football coach with four programs. He coached at Ole Miss from 1995 to 1998 before spending nearly a decade at Auburn (1999-2008). The Tigers went undefeated en route to an SEC title in 2004 and finished No. 2 in the country. Tuberville went 85-40 overall at Auburn and had great success against rival Alabama, finishing with a 7-3 record against the Crimson Tide. During the lead-up run for Senate, he joked to Alabama fans that they should thank him, saying, “If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have Nick Saban.”
