Washington’s City Council got through a loaded agenda in about 25 minutes Monday evening. Most of the business revolved around changes in the way Cares Act funding is being disbursed to municipalities. In regular business, the Council adopted an ordinance establishing a pass through account to receive funds from Daviess County to assist with the U.S. 50 project. The Council also adopted a resolution finalizing the establishment of an economic revitalization area and setting up the tax abatement schedule for the new True RX offices in the I-69/U.S. 50 bypass area. The new building looks to add approximately 90 jobs to the Washington area economy.
Mayor David Rhoads reported the city’s phosphorous removal building and Phase II of the U.S. 50 project are both nearing completion.

Following the Council meeting the Board of Public Works and Safety took the first steps at initiating Phase III of the old U.S. 50 project by approving a Right-of-Way procurement agreement with INDOT. Phase III of the project will run from S.E. Third to the State Street fork. Initial work on Phase III should begin after the first of the year. The Board also approved an agreement with the Southern Indiana Development Commission for grant administration and management for the COVID-19 Response Program for local businesses.
