Starting on Saturday, NFL teams must now operate under the league’s new intensive COVID-19 protocols for the remainder of the season, according to a memo sent to the teams yesterday.  Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote “flexibility and adaptability have been critical to the success of the league to this point and we must continue.”  The league put down the new mandates based on a heightened spread of the virus across the country and new data they have been collecting throughout the year.  The new protocols call for virtual team meetings and the wearing of masks at all times by all players and staff while at the facility, including during practice.

The Saints received bad news yesterday.  Following a second opinion on quarterback Drew Brees, it was confirmed he had a collapsed lung and five fractured ribs on both sides of his body.  Brees absorbed a big hit by the 49ers defense but was able to stay in the game the remainder of the first half before sitting out the rest of the contest.  Coach Sean Payton has not  named a replacement yet for his star this week.  The Saints have not yet decided whether or not to put him on injured reserve which would leave him out the next three games.
The LA Dodgers this year’s World Series Champions are the latest in Major League Baseball to announce lay-offs as the league looks to a possible second season without fans or limited access due to COVID.   The Astros, Cubs, and Red Sox are among other teams who are also making the tough decisions.  According to the latest numbers from the Dodgers, the team lost in excess of $100 million dollars last season despite winning the title.  Overall according to commissioner Rob Manfred, the league lost more than $3 billion dollars.
