Washington’s City Council continues to get good news about the west phase of the old U.S. 50 project. Mayor David Rhoads told the Council members that the water part of the project is completed and the sewer component is 76% complete. The Mayor said that the final component is 27% complete. Final paving of the roadway will be done next Spring. Curbs, sidewalks, and driveways will be done this winter, as weather permits. Mayor Rhoads also said that the City is waiting on title work for the property at 501 S. Meridian where the project is reworking the Meridian Street intersection with old 50. The Mayor also said that the Phosporous Removal plant is about five weeks from completion.
In the business segment of the meeting the Council passed two ordinances, one reducing the appropriation from the Southwest TIF District, and the other providing for an additional appropriation to recieve money ito from the General Fund. The Council also heard the introduction of two ordinances. The first established a designated fund to receive money from the State provided by the Federal Cares Act. The funds will be used to support small businesses affected by the on-going pandemic. Mayor Rhoads said that the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation is overseeing all the paper work and the application process. The other new proposed ordinance would raise the amount of allowed in the Clerk-Treasurer’s petty cash fund.
At the end of the evening, Mayor Rhoads reminded everyone of Christmas in the Park this year. The events will be drive through only, but the Mayor said special items are planned and noted that the City has more lights and dispays this year. He asked everyone to check the City’s Facebook page for announcements about special events in the Park over the Christmas season.
