It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Daniel Lee Schuckman, 76, of Vincennes, Indiana. Dan was born on June 4th, 1944 to Carl Edward Schuckman and Marie Elizabeth Chansler Schuckman in Vincennes, Indiana. He attended Monroe City schools and graduated in 1962. He was the starting guard for the 1961 sectional champion Monroe City Blue Jeans. The team went on to advance to the regional finals. He was a proud member of that team which was considered by many to be one of the best teams in the state that year. The bond with teammates and coaches lasted a lifetime and was one of his proudest memories.
After high school he attended Vincennes University, where he played basketball for the Trailblazers for two years, and then transferred to Purdue University where he graduated from the School of Agriculture in 1967.
On August 7th, 1966 he married Nancy Dale Stephens of Vincennes, the daughter of Robert Loren Stephens and Bonnie Dolores Manning Stephens.
After graduation he entered into the Illinois National Guard where he served for eleven years retiring as Captain and Commanding Officer of the 682nd Engineer Battalion.
Throughout his lifetime he farmed in Palmyra, Harrison, and Johnson townships in Knox County. Dan raised cattle maintaining herds in Knox, Daviess, and Lawrence counties in Indiana. He also became an auctioneer and licensed appraiser and formed Schuckman Auction Service.
Dan was appointed Director of several boards including Farmers Home Mutual Insurance Company board, the German American Advisory Bank Board, as well as serving on Indiana State Board of Animal Health by Governor Joseph Kernan. Dan served proudly on the WIN Energy Rural Electric Cooperative from 1984-2021 where he was most recently serving as Board Chairman. He also served on the Hoosier Energy board where he was currently serving as Vice Chairman. He served on the Producers Livestock Advisory Board in Columbus, Ohio for seven years which led to him being hired as Manager of Producers Livestock Market in Vincennes where he worked for over 30 years.
Dan found a lot of enjoyment in many things throughout his lifetime. Many of those revolved around the relationships he built with the people he met. He served as a trustee and elder for Indiana Presbyterian Church. After retirement, he maintained the early 1800s cemetery at the church by mowing and repairing over 100 headstones that had fallen into disrepair.
He had a love for sports beyond his playing days including watching his own boys, his grandchildren, as well as his Purdue Boilermakers. He did color commentary for South Knox high school on the radio, coached South Knox little league baseball as well as YMCA basketball teams.
Dan enjoyed vacationing and travelling out west with a fondness for Montana. He also enjoyed the many cattle owner friendships he made in the Amish Community of Daviess County.
Dan is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Stephens Schuckman; son Matthew Stephens and his wife Kristi Nonte Schuckman of Vincennes. Their children Zachary Schuckman, his wife Jayci Fields Schuckman and their son Finn Schuckman of Vincennes, Madison Schuckman Smith and her husband Reid Smith of Chicago, Illinois, and Tate Schuckman of Vincennes; son Brandt Daniel Schuckman and his wife Kallie Burke Schuckman of Washington and their children Kyra and Cooper Schuckman.
