The Washington Lady Hatchets captured the school’s 11th sectional title in girls basketball and made it back to back with an exciting 48 to 45 overtime win Saturday night in the 3A Sectional championship at Vincennes against the host Alices.  The score was tied at 42 at the end of regulation, and it was Kencia Lavasseur with the winning basket and the steal on the inbounds pass that would seal the deal for Washington.  The Lady Hatchets move on to the Charlestown Regional on Saturday to face tough competition.  5th ranked Washington will play Rushville in game one.  Rushville comes in at 17 and 8, while the Hatchets are 19 and 1.  The other semi final will have Silver Creek facing Evansville Memorial.  Tune in for complete coverage Saturday morning on Memories 107.9fm your home for the Hatchets.

Loogootee also captured their own sectional on Saturday defeating Orleans 55 to 26 at Jack Butcher Arena.  Loogootee will face Trinity Lutheran at noon Saturday at Springs Valley.  The first game will have Lanesville against Tecumseh.  Good luck to the Lady Lions this weekend at Regional!
The Hatchet Boys traveled to North Daviess Saturday afternoon and fell to the host North Daviess Cougars 41 to 29.  The Hatchets struggled to find the hoop on a low scoring day.  Washington drops to 5 and 9 and will host Mt Vernon at the Hatchet House tomorrow night.  Tip off is set for 7:30pm.  North Daviess improved to 14 and 3 and will be on the road at Clay City tomorrow night.
Tom Brady will never have to buy a drink in the city of Tampa, Florida ever again. The now seven-time Super Bowl Champion stretched his all-time lead even further in the number of individual Super Bowl rings ever as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers walloped the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55 by a final of 31-9. Brady was flawless with three touchdowns and no interceptions, along with 201 yards thrown through the air. Two of the touchdowns belonged to longtime New England Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski, while the last was thrown to former Pittsburgh Steeler Antonio Brown. On the Kansas City side, Patrick Mahomes ended his first bid at back-to-back Super Bowls and recorded 270 pass yards with zero touchdowns. It was only the second time in Mahomes’ career that he ended a playoff game with no touchdown passes. The last? January 12th versus the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Divisional Round.
Over the weekend, the Pro Football Hall of Fame announced their eight new entries into immortality. Longtime quarterback and two-time Super Bowl Champion with the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos, Peyton Manning officially got the call to Canton. Manning, the five-time MVP, 14-time Pro Bowler, and Colts Ring of Honor member, was instituted into the Hall in his first year on the ballot.
The Indiana Pacers have lost three games in a row for the first time this season after falling on Sunday afternoon to the Utah Jazz at home 103-95. Indiana, who started the season at 4-1, is now 12-12 and at second place in the Central Division behind the Milwaukee Bucks.
Was the Indiana Hoosiers sweeping Luka Garza and the Iowa Hawkeyes a part of your 2020-2021 college basketball bingo card? After their 81-69 win in Iowa City when the Hawkeyes were ranked number four, the crimson did it again on Sunday thanks to the late game clutch work of Armaan Franklin. Franklin’s 15-foot game winning jumper with the scored tied at 65-65 lifted Archie Miller’s club over Iowa by a final of 67-65. The Hoosiers improved to 10-8 on the year and keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive with a trip to the Chicago ahead playing at Northwestern on Wednesday at 9 PM.
