Daviess County Council hears Innkeepers tax increase proposal

At yesterdays Daviess County Council meeting, the board heard from Daviess County Chamber of Commerce Director Joe Morris. Morris was requesting a 4% increase to the innkeepers tax. He was also looking at purchasing a building to be used as a convention center for the county. Morris had asked for the County Commissioners support on Tuesday…

The tax has remained at 5% since 1987. Many attempts have been in the past to raise the tax, but all have failed. Morris stressed that the revenue from the tax increase would go towards promoting and building Daviess County Tourism.

The council voted by majority to increase the tax if the bill can be brought to the legislators by the end of this year.
