Barr-Reeve Board Opposes Using State Funds to Expand Voucher Program for Private and Charter Schools

The Barr-Reeve School Board has joined a growing chorus of Hoosier School systems opposing an increased use of state education funds to pay for tuition to private and charter schools.   Barr-Reeves Board members passed a resolution opposing Senate Bill 1005 and House Bill 413 which would expand the State’s voucher program taking funds away from public school systems.  The Washington School Board has also voted to oppose the bill.   State Senator Eric Bassler is one of the bill’s sponsors.  The Bill would move $200 million in state funds from public schools to private and charter schools by increasing income levels and adding classes of people eligible to use vouchers.
