Alonzo Overton

Alonzo Carl ‘Popeye’ Overton, 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021in Indianapolis. He was born on January 13, 1932 in Odon, Indiana to Alonzo Mount and Effie (Flinn) Overton.
Alonzo was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He was of the Baptist faith and was a past member of United Brethren in Raglesville. Alonzo retired from Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis with 30 years of service. He enjoyed basketball, softball, horseshoes, Euchre, Rook and especially checkers because he was the master of checkers. He loved playing basketball for the Odon Bulldogs and he was involved in 4-H.
Family left to cherish the memory of Alonzo include: one son, Patrick Carl Overton; one daughter, Patricia Collette Overton, both of Indianapolis; one sister, Patricia Ann (Ron) Hinkle of Washington; several nieces and nephews.
Alonzo was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Howard, Keith and Jim Overton; four sisters, Mary Holland, Ruth Barnett, Maxine Hulse and Naomi Hoover.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon. Alonzo will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery following military graveside rites by the Odon VFW Post #9627.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In compliance with state regulations, social distancing and face masks are required by all attending.
