The NFL owners officially approved a 17-game regular season schedule starting this fall. Teams will play 17 regular season games with three preseason contests, a change from the NFL schedule of 16 games with four preseason contests that had been in place since 1978. As a result, the Indianapolis Colts will host the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Colts will have nine regular season home games with one preseason home tilt, and the full NFL schedule will be released in May. Players agreed to play the extra game as part of the 2020 collective bargaining agreement. Their salaries will remain the same, with payments spread out over 18 weeks instead of 17. The season will start September 9th, and the Super Bowl in Los Angeles has been pushed back one week from February 6th to February 13th.
