William Howard Elkins, 71, of Washington, IN, passed away April 2, 2021 at his residence. He was born September 17, 1949 in Lafayette, IN to Howard and Dorothy (Pelfree) Elkins. He served as a Staff Sargent in the United States Air Force from 1972-1975. Following his military service he began his lifetime career in the railroad at Penn Central and retired as an engineer from Amtrak at age 60. He was a “Mr. Fix It” that loved tinkering with tools, collecting train memorabilia, and spoiling his wife with her Christmas treasures from their countless auction trips.
Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon (Jochim) Elkins; children, Mike (Tricia) Elkins of Indianapolis, Tina (Danny) Stone of Winslow, and Julie (Jeff) Morrow of Marion, IN; seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren; and sister Dianna (Bill) Law of Phoenix, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will take place at 1 PM EST on Tuesday, April 6, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with visitation held from 10 AM until service time. Burial will take place at Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
