Two arrested on drug charges

A Washington woman and Shoals man are behind bars after a traffic stop in Spencer County.
Indiana State Police stopped a white 1999 Pontiac in Dale Indiana yesterday. The driver, Dennis Sipes II of Shoals, was a Habitual Traffic Violator with a lifetime suspension. During the traffic stop, police located methamphetamine on Sipes. Officers then became suspicious that Sipes may be involved in drug activity at the Baymont hotel in Dale.
Troopers went to the Baymont hotel and located Kaci M. Newport of Washington and her juvenile daughter. While speaking to Newport, troopers determined that Newport and her daughter had been staying with Sipes at the hotel. They also discovered that she was in possession of illegal narcotics.
Troopers found a bag that contained what was believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana.
Further investigation revealed that the drugs also belonged to Sipes.
Newport and Sipes were both transported to the Spencer County Jail and are facing several charges.
The Indiana Department of Child Services assisted Indiana State Police and the Spencer County Sheriff Department.
