Washington girls tennis team defeated Vincennes Rivet 4-1.
Washington Baseball team topped Vincennes Lincoln on the road last night 10 to 7 on 16 big hits on the night. Nick Sandullo got the win for Washington, who improves to 8 and 4 on the season. The Hatchets travel to Boonville tonight.

Indiana All-Star directors had one of the most difficult assignments this year in selecting the boys Indiana All-Star team. This year’s team will be led by Mr. Basketball Caleb Furst of Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian, and they will play in the Indiana All-Star series against the Kentucky All-Stars on June 11 in Owensboro, Ky., and June 12 at Southport Fieldhouse. The All-Stars will play an exhibition game against the Junior All-Stars at Brownsburg on June 9. Two notables in our area not making the team this year were Curt Hopf from Barr Reeve, and Colson Montgomery from Southridge.
Indiana basketball received a commitment from four-star class of 2021 shooting guard Tamar Bates Monday. Bates is originally from Kansas City and left to play his senior season at the sports powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and will join the Hoosiers this fall. The 6-foot-4 left hander is ranked the 60th best player in the class of 2021 by 247 Sports.
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Washington Nationals 12-5 Monday night in Washington, D.C. Paul DeJong hit two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in five runs for the Cards. St. Louis added three more home runs to get back to .500 at 8-8. In Boston, the Red Sox jumped on White Sox starter Lucas Giolito and beat Chicago 11-4 on Patriots’ Day. The Red Sox scored six runs in the first inning and Giolito was taken out in the second after allowing another run. For the first time ever, the Patriots’ Day 11 a.m. game was not accompanied by the Boston Marathon, which was postponed until October due to COVID-19.
The San Antonio Spurs beat the depleted Indiana Pacers 109-94 Monday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana shot just 32.7 percent from the field and has lost three straight games. Before the game, the team announced that center Myles Turner will be out indefinitely due to a right toe injury. All-star Domantas Sabonis sat out with a lower back injury, while Jeremy Lamb missed the game due to knee pain. That is in addition to T.J. Warren, who will be out the remainder of the season with a left foot injury.
The Indiana and Notre Dame football programs announced the two teams will play a home-and-home series in 2030 and 2031. IU will play at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend on August 31, 2030, and the Fighting Irish will return to Bloomington’s Memorial Stadium September 27, 2031. The two in-state programs have not played since 1991, a 49-27 Fighting Irish win in South Bend.
