Guy Ervin Cockerham, 80, of Fort Branch, formerly of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville with his family by his side.
He was born on June 27, 1940 to Louie Ervin and Ella Mae (Leffler) Cockerham in a log cabin in the Knox County Bottoms near the White River. He always called it the “old homeplace” and shared great stories of growing up there. He always said “we didn’t have much in this world, but we had love and we had each other.”
He attended school at Monroe City and Petersburg High School with the Class of 1958. He worked at several jobs at an early age and started working at Potter and Brumfield in Princeton on October 25, 1961 and retired from Potter and Brumfield/Siemens in 1998.
He loved to play cards, hunt arrowheads and mushrooms, collect antiques and playing the guitar, making up songs for the kids. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and all the Grandkids. He never met a stranger, and family and friends called him “Guybo”.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Lange) Cockerham of Fort Branch, whom he married on July 30, 1993.
Also surviving are his children, Rick (Melody) Cockerham of Washington, IN; Suzie (David) Sorgius of Otwell; Teresa (John) Walters and Sheli (Everett) Dillon of Petersburg; Greg (Leah) Davis and Stacy Davis of Haubstadt; fourteen grandkids and numerous great-grandkids; brother, Ray Dell Cockerham of Dublin, OH; aunt Betty Barnett of Petersburg, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Ella Mae Cockerham; sister and brother-in-law Geraldine (Deanie) and Harry Lee; brother Bobby Dale Cockerham; Ronnie Drew; and an infant sister at birth.
Funeral services will be at 2:00pm EST on Friday, April 30, 2021 at O.D. Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, IN with burial following at Walnut Hills Cemetery, Pastor Lowell Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00am until service time on Friday.
