Lyle Wesley Wuertz of Elizabethtown, Kentucky (formerly of Glendale, Indiana) passed away suddenly Wednesday April 28, 2021 at 10:17 A.M. at Baptist Hospital Hardin, Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
He was born on Easter Sunday, April 21st, 1935, in Daviess County, Indiana, to Roscoe and Hilda (Solomon) Wuertz.
Lyle graduated from Washington High School in Washington, Indiana in 1953, after playing varsity basketball for the Hatchets there for several years. He also held the record in High Hurdles there for many years, earning the nickname “Leapin’ Lyle”.
He and Susie (Betty Sue) Armes were married on June 10th, 1956, at First Christian Church in Washington.
Lyle worked in various roles, including Farm Bureau Co-op, US Rubber/Uniroyal (Foreman), Burger Chef/Hardee’s (Manager), VanWinkle Electric, and Daviess County Hospital.
His hobbies and interests included woodworking, motorcycling, gardening and grandchildren. Lyle often gave gifts of his woodworking and of himself and his time to others. He could fix anything, figure out anything he decided he wanted to accomplish, and he never gave up.
He was an active member of “The Happy Side Singers” in the 1970’s at Bethany Christian Church when possible, and later a member of New Hope Christian Church. After moving to Kentucky to be near family he and Susie attended Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sons (Anthony Lee, Wayne Alan and Thad Daniel), daughter Melody Sue, and granddaughter Jessica Rae). He is survived by his wife Betty Sue (Susie), son Wesley Dean and his wife Julia, sister, Doris Kane, brother, Darrell Wuertz and his wife Pat, and many grand and great grandchildren.
Friends may visit with Lyle’s family from 5 pm until 8 pm on Saturday, May 1st, 2021 at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home, 2020 State St., Washington, IN 47501. Or they may attend Lyle’s funeral service, which will start at 2:00 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Bethany Cemetery immediately following.
