A standoff between police and a wanted male suspect caused some excitement throughout Washington yesterday. Roads were blocked off and schools were placed on a late dismissal due to the incident.
On Friday, Detectives with the Washington Police Department attempted to arrest 29-year-old Ronald Blackmon outside of a residence on NE 1st in Washington.
Blackmon was wanted on warrants out of Missouri and Pike County, Indiana and had been flagged as armed and dangerous with violent tendencies.
Law Enforcement had also received information that he was in possession of a handgun.
The Washington Police Department Emergency Response Team, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department SRU Team, along with other Officers from both Departments, surrounded the residence and attempted to call Blackmon out of the home.
After multiple unsuccessful attempts were made to get Blackmon out voluntarily, a WPD Detective obtained a search warrant for the residence.
Officers deployed CS gas and a K9 was into the residence. They then located Blackmon who was hiding in the basement of the residence.
Blackmon was taken into custody without incident and further charged with Resisting Law Enforcement.
