Three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Unser died Sunday due to natural causes at the age of 87. The Albuquerque, New Mexico native was one of the most colorful figures in the history of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” and made up part of the famous Unser racing family. Unser became the first driver to win a “500” in three different decades, winning in 1968, 1975 and 1981. Bobby’s younger brother Al is one of three four-time winners of the Indy 500, and his nephew Al Jr. won the race twice. After retiring from racing, he became a racing analyst for ABC, ESPN and NBC. Unser raced at one point for Roger Penske, who now owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Penske said in a statement “There simply was no one quite like Bobby Unser.”
