Authorities are continuing to warn Hoosiers about scam artists using local numbers.
Con artists may be using local telephone numbers to trick people into sending money, said the U.S. Marshals in the Southern District of Indiana.
Scammers will say that you have a fine for failure to report for jury duty, or failure to pay taxes.
They will then say you can avoid being arrested if you buy a pre-paid debit card, or gift card, and read the card number over the phone.
This is a lie, even if they have actual badge numbers, or names of officers or judges.
The U.S. Marshals said they will never ask for credit or debit cars numbers, or personal banking information.
