Washington native Austin Jarrett has been named the new Lacrosse coach at IU. The school made the announcement yesterday. Jarrett has served as the defensive coordinator and assistant coach since 2018. Jarrett is a graduate of Wabash College where he played for the Lacrosse team and served as captain. Jarrett has the rest of his coaching staff in place and is eager to begin his new role with the program.
Washington Lady Hatchet basketball stand out Alaina Thorne will compete today in the Indiana Junior All Star game at Brownsburg High School. Tip off is set for 6pm. Good luck Alaina.
The Washington and Barr Reeve Boys Golf teams are preparing for regional play tomorrow at Country Oaks in Montgomery. Washington captured the sectional championship at Vincennes last week, while the Vikings were a close second two strokes behind. The regional is set to tee off at 8:30am tomorrow morning weather permitting.
The Washington Boys Basketball team will be hosting their summer shoot out this weekend at the Hatchet House, Junior High, and Griffith. Washington, Barr Reeve, Linton, Mt Vernon, Gibson Southern, Loogootee, North Daviess, Shakamak, Washington Catholic and Bloomington South will be competing in the JV and Varsity tournaments. The shoot out starts at 9am Friday.
Jose Ramirez drove in four runs and the Cleveland Indians beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-1 Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. Cleveland handed the Cards their sixth straight loss. In Cincinnati, the Brewers defeated the Reds 5-1 to win their fifth in a row. Cincinnati had a four-game winning streak come to an end while Milwaukee has won 10 out of 11. The Cubs kept pace with the NL Central-leading Brewers with a 7-1 victory over San Diego. Anthony Rizzo drove in four, including a two-run double and a two-run homer as the Cubs evened the series at one game a piece. The Chicago White Sox scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth to pull away from the Toronto Blue Jays 6-1, and the Detroit Tigers earned a 5-3 win over the Seattle Mariners.
