The Indiana Department of Natural Resources has confirmed a recent black bear sighting.
The bear was seen in Vanderburgh County early Sunday morning.
This marks the fourth confirmed black bear in the Hoosier state, with the first sighting in 1871.
The second confirmed black bear sighting came over 100 years later in 2015.
Two more black bears have been confirmed since 2015.
DNR says black bears are rarely aggressive, but they do urge people to avoiding feeding or approaching the animal.
In addition, they say black bear sightings can be expected with the expanding bear population in neighboring states.
