Vesper L. Hill, 83, of Union, Indiana, passed away at his home on Saturday, July 10, 2021.
He was born on February 15, 1938 in Princeton, Indiana to the late Lossie and Irene (Catt) Hill.
Vesper graduated top of his class in 1956 from Hazleton High School, where he played basketball and, in his senior year, set the Gibson County basketball scoring record which he held for six years. He held a Bachelors degree from Oakland City College and a Masters degree in Mathematics from Indiana State University. He starting his coaching and teaching careers at Fort Branch and Tecumseh before coming to Petersburg High School in 1969. While there, and later Pike Central, he taught mathematics, coached varsity basketball and cross country, served as athletic director, and was also principal of Pike Central Middle School. For over twenty-five years he taught night school Mathematics at Ivy Tech in Evansville. In addition to his career in education and coaching, he loved tending to his cattle and was an avid U.K. Basketball fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years Carolyn (Davidson) Hill.
He is survived by son Brent Hill of Evansville, IN; grandsons Austin Hill of Boston, MA & Alexander Hill (Shelby Rudicel) of Union, IN; and a dear cousin Peg Hyneman of Hazleton, IN.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm EST on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Union Community Cemetery in Union, Indiana. Visitation will be from Noon until 2:00pm EST at O.D. Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Union Community Cemetery or Heart to Heart Hospice. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
