Two Colts legends are now part of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Peyton Manning and Edgerrin James were inducted into the Hall over the weekend in Canton, Ohio. James is part of the 2020 class that was presented for enshrinement by Jim Irsay after the ceremony was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Manning, who spent over a decade under center for the Colts, was presented by his father, Archie Manning. James and Manning are now part of the 17-member group of Indianapolis Colts in the Hall of Fame.
The Indianapolis Colts signed linebacker Darius Leonard to a major contract extension on Sunday. Leonard inked a deal worth 5-years, $99.25 million. Since being selected 36th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, Leonard has tallied 416 tackles becoming just the 10th player in NFL history to reach 400 tackles in his first three seasons. Leonard has received All-Pro honors from the Associated Press each year of his career, was the AP Defensive Rookie of the year and is a two time pro-bowler.
After going airborne during a crash on Lap 4, Marcus Ericsson rallied to win his second IndyCar race of the season at the Music City Grand Prix (PREE) in Nashville, Tennessee. Ericsson’s Honda needed a new front wing after the wreck with Sebastien Bourdais early in the day but he escaped the rest of the race without an incident. Colton Herta was the fastest car all weekend topping the first two practice sessions and winning pole position. Herta hit the tire barriers with five laps left and Scott Dixon finished second for Chip Ganassi Racing. With the win, ERicsson moves into fifth in the points race with Alex Palou maintaining his place at the top of the standings. The inaugural Music City Grand Prix was the first street course race added to the schedule in 10 years.
The Chicago White Sox made the trip across the city to Wrigley Field and outscored the Cubs 21-9 en route to a three game sweep of their cross-town rival capped off by a 9-3 win on Sunday. The Cleveland Indians beat the Detroit Tigers 7-5 getting two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning courtesy of a two-run shot from Bradley Zimmer. The Reds completed a four game sweep of the Pirates winning 3-2 as Tyler Mahle struck out 10 batters. The St. Louis Cardinals scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game against the Kansas City Royals before Nicky Lopez singled to right to drive in the game winning run in the top of the ninth.
