The Indianapolis Colts welcomed the Carolina Panthers to Grand Park on Thursday. The two teams competed throughout a two hour joint practice in Westfield. With starting quarterback Carson Wentz out following surgery, Jacob Eason and rookie Sam Ehlinger split reps with the first team on offense. The practice did see an early scuffle between the two teams, however the issues did not escalate through the remainder of the day, Reich explained post-practice. Indianapolis and Carolina will practice together this evening from 4:00-6:00pm, before the two teams open the preseason on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Indianapolis Colts announced the COVID protocols that will be in place at Lucas Oil Stadium on Thursday. The team confirmed the venue will be open at full capacity starting with the preseason game with Carolina on Sunday. Following local and NFL guidelines, masks will be recommended, but not required, for all fans attending games this season. Unlike last season, tailgating prior to games will be allowed this year, as well as, the return of Touchdown Town outside of the venue.
The Cincinnati Reds’ offense dominated Braves’ pitching to avoid a sweep in Atlanta, winning the finale, 12-3. Jesse lead the way for the Reds with three hits, including a grand slam in the second to give the Reds the lead. In Chicago, the Brewers blew by the Cubs, 17-4. Luis Urias drove in five runs on five hits. Kyle Hendricks took his fifth loss of the year. He went four innings and allowed nine earned runs. In Pittsburgh, the Pirates late rally was not enough, as they fell to the Cardinals, 7-6. St. Louis is now 58 and 56.
Tim Anderson’s walk-off homer propelled the White Sox past the Yankees 9-8. The game was played at the Field of Dreams site, just across the cornfield from the original field seen in the movie in Dyersville, Iowa. Both teams emerged from the cornfield behind the outfield wall as they took the field. The Detroit Tigers concluded a series in Baltimore with a 6 to 4 victory over the Orioles. The Tigers put up five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. In Cleveland, the Athletics blanked Cleveland, 17 to 0. Chris Bassit picked up his 12th win of the season.
