The Washington Hatchet Volleyball team opens the season tonight at the Hatchet House against Southridge.  Live coverage begins at 7:15 pm on Memories 107.9fm.

North Daviess volleyball lost a tough game in five sets yesterday to Paoli.  The Cougars drop to 0 and 2 and will travel to Shoals tonight.  The JV team grabbed the win to even their mark to 1 and 1.
Loogootee Volleyball lost to Jasper yesterday 3 to 1
North Daviess Boys Tennis grabbed a shut-out win over Edgewood 5 to 0.  The Cougars will take on Southridge tomorrow at 5:30pm at home.
The Barr Reeve boys tennis team topped Bedford for a big opening win 5 to nothing yesterday.  The Vikes are now 1 and 0 on the season.
The Barr Reeve Middle School Soccer Club defeated Bloomfield easily yesterday 19 to 1, the JV team fell 6 to 4.  Both teams return to action against Washington Catholic at Antioch Fields on Friday at 5:30pm.
The Washington Boys Soccer team will open the season at home tonight against Bloomington South.  The Washington Girls Soccer game against Tell City has been cancelled tonight.  The Hatchet Girls will now play at home on Thursday against North Posey.
In Girls Golf, the Washington Hatchets played Barr Reeve at Country Oaks in a 9 hole match play event.  The Vikings came out with the close win 3 and a half to 1 and a half.
The Cincinnati Reds used an eight-run seventh inning to defeat the Chicago Cubs 14-5 Monday night at Great American Ball Park. The Cubs have now lost 12 straight games. Future Hall of Famer Joey Votto recorded his 2,000th career-hit as part of a three-hit night. Jonathan India hit a two-run homer, and the potential NL Rookie of the Year ended with five RBI. Brownsburg native Tucker Barnhart drove in three and capped the scoring with a two-run home run.   Earlier in the day Monday, multiple reports stated that the Cubs and Reds will play each other in the 2022 Field of Dreams Game in Dyersville, Iowa next August. The inaugural game in the cornfields near where the movie “Field of Dreams” was filmed was played last week between the White Sox and Yankees. Tim Anderson won it for the Sox on a walkoff home run into the corn, in what was the most-watched regular season MLB game in 16 years.
The Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 5-2 Monday night in a battle of probable playoff teams.   The Minnesota Twins walked off the Cleveland Indians 5-4 in 10 innings, which extended Chicago’s lead in the AL Central back to 11 games.

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz could be inching closer to a return after foot surgery. Coach Frank Reich said Monday that while he won’t project a return date, the team feels good about where the 28-year-old quarterback is at in his recovery process. Wentz underwent foot surgery two weeks ago Monday, and the timetable for return was projected at five to 12 weeks. Reich added that the team hopes to get center Ryan Kelly back at practice sometime this week after dealing with an elbow injury.
