West Nile Virus found in Martin County

West Nile Virus has been discovered in Martin County.
According to the Martin County Journal, a mosquito sample from Shoals tested by the Indiana State Department of Health was positive for the West Nile Virus.
The CDC says West Nile virus (WNV) is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the continental United States.
It is most spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito.
The infected sample was collected at the Boat Ramp at 8th and Main on August 3.
The CDC says the best way to protect yourself from West Nile Virus is to prevent mosquitoes from biting you and reduce mosquito breeding areas.
You can do this by limiting time outdoors, applying insect repellent, installing screens on doors and windows, and getting rid of standing water in your neighborhood.
You can learn more about the West Nile Virus on the CDC’s website.
