Plans for a new jail in Knox County have hit a snag. Knox County officials have budgeted approximately $26 million to build a new corrections center, but construction representatives say the cost of the project is in the neighborhood of $32 million. Last year, a criminal justice study found that Knox County needed at least 220 more beds to avoid jail overcrowding. Knox County officials discussed several options on how to pare down the cost of the new jai and community corrections center Thursday night, but say that each option presents drawbacks.
