The Barr-Reeve tennis team lost to Loogootee 3-2 on Wednesday night at Loogootee taking their record to 6-1 on the season. Loogootee remains undefeated.
The middle school Barr-Reeve Vikings varsity soccer team was defeated by Wood Memorial Trojans 4-nil. They are back in action Thursday evening at Eastern Greene at 6 pm.
The Hatchet Tennis team travels to Princeton tonight. Washington girls soccer will play in the Hoosier Cup this weekend. Girls Volleyball continues to be on hold with games and practice thru September 10th. The Girls Golf team is at North Posey. Hatchet Football will host top ranked Gibson Southern at Hatchet Hollow tomorrow night.
North Daviess Golf takes on Eastern Greene and White River Valley, the Cougar Tennis travels to Vincennes Lincoln, and the Volleyball team will be at Dubois.
The St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds split a doubleheader Wednesday at Great American Ball Park. The Cards took Game 1 5-4 behind a pair of Paul Goldschmidt homers. His second home run of the game came in the fourth inning of a seven inning contest and put St. Louis on top for good. In the second game, Nick Castellanos hit two homers in the first two innings, including a grand slam, and the Reds ran away with a 12-2 victory. In Minneapolis, Justin Steele and Adbert Alzolay combined for a two-hitter and the Chicago Cubs beat the Minnesota Twins 3-0.
Gavin Sheets homered twice, including a three-run long ball, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-3 to complete a two-game sweep. Earlier in the day Wednesday, Chicago placed All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson on the 10-day injured list with hamstring soreness. The Cleveland Indians scored twice in the top of the 11th inning and held on to defeat the Kansas City Royals 5-3. The Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak with an 8-6 victory over the Oakland Athletics.
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said Wednesday that wide receiver T.Y. Hilton underwent neck surgery and will be placed on injured reserve. The 10th year veteran will miss at least the first three games. Ballard said the procedure was not major, and that it provided Hilton with instant relief. Indianapolis signed 15 players to the practice squad and acquired two cornerbacks off the waiver wire. Indianapolis currently has four players on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
