The Monroe City Fall Festival is this weekend and will feature the dedication of the outdoor basketball pavilion.
The pavilion will be named in honor of Sam and Sharon Alford.
The ceremony will take place at approximately 6:00 pm this Saturday, September 18th, at the Blue Jeans Center.
Sam Alford was the last basketball coach of the former Monroe City High School in the 1967 season, leading the Blue Jeans to a 22-3 record, which included a 20-game winning streak and a championship in the famed Wabash Valley Tourney.
Alford then became the first basketball coach at South Knox and coached the Spartans from 1968 through 1971.
He accumulated 452 total high school coaching wins in route to a Hall of Fame career.
Sam Alford and his wife Sharon will be present for Saturday’s dedication.
