The Barr-Reeve tennis team lost to North Daviess 3-2 on Wednesday night at North Daviess taking their record to 12-2 on the season. North Daviess will host Linton tonight. The Washington Hatchet Tennis team will travel to Vincennes Lincoln.
The Washington Girls Soccer team shut out Boonville for a nice road win last night 2 to nothing.
Tonight, in boys soccer the Washington Hatchets will host Boonville in the Coaches vs Cancer game. Kick off at 6:30pm at the Sports Complex. Washington Catholic will take on Vincennes Rivet on the road. In Volleyball, the Lady Hatchets return to action on the road tonight at Heritage Hills. Barr Reeve will be at home to take on South Knox, and North Daviess travels to White River Valley.
Four crucial Indianapolis Colts players missed practice Wednesday in advance of Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Linebacker Darius Leonard sat out with an ankle injury and cornerback Xavier Rhodes continued to miss time with a hurt calf. Along the offensive line, left guard Quenton Nelson was out while nursing foot and back injuries, and Braden Smith missed practice with an injured foot. Left tackle Eric Fisher was a limited participant and said he’s feeling real good and has been doing everything he can in his power to be available. Fisher is eight months removed from a torn Achilles and missed the season opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks that saw quarterback Carson Wentz hit ten times. The Colts are currently 3.5-point underdogs for Sunday’s 1 p.m. kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Cincinnati Reds’ slide continued with a 5-4 loss to the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates. The Reds have lost seven out of nine and have fallen one and a half games back of the Cardinals for the second and final wild card berth in the National League. Wilmer Difo scored the winning run from second base on a Colin Moran groundout in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kyle Farmer tied the game at four in the eighth with a solo home run for the Reds. In New York, the Cardinals scored five runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-4 victory over the Mets. St. Louis was led by Harrison’s Bader three RBI, including a solo home run in the fourth. Jon Lester earned the victory after striking out seven and allowing two earned runs over six innings. Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado each had solo home runs in the seventh followed by RBI singles in the eighth as the Cards won their fifth straight.
Robinson Chirinos allowed a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth and the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-5 at Citizens Bank Park. Chirinos knotted the game at four with a two-run homer in the eighth, and Matt Duffy kept the Cubs alive with a solo shot in the ninth to make it five-all. Andrew Knapp singled to start the ninth, and advanced to third on a sacrifice and a ground out before the walk-off passed ball. Kyle Hendricks will start for Chicago in Thursday night’s series finale. Elsewhere in the NL Central, Milwaukee fell to Detroit 4-1. The Tigers took both games from the division leading Brewers and have won four out of five.
The Los Angeles Angels took the lead in the top of the eighth inning and held on to beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field. Brandon Marsh hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the eighth off Michael Kopech to put L.A. on top for good. The White Sox had two runners on in the bottom of the eighth, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. In the bottom of the ninth, the Sox stranded runners on the corners when Cesar Hernandez flew out on the warning track to end the game. Reynaldo Lopez will start for Chicago opposite Alex Cobb in the rubber match Thursday afternoon. Chicago’s magic number to clinch the AL Central stayed at seven due to Cleveland’s 12-3 win over Minnesota. The Indians had 14 hits, including homers from Oscar Mercado, Bobby Bradley and Franmil Reyes.
