The City of Vincennes and Knox County are looking at implementing a local public safety tax to provide funding for EMS emergency services in Knox County
Knox County’s EMS has concerns over funding and has asked to be subsidized. According to Knox County Commissioner Kelly Streeter, Knox County is working under a tight budget and the public safety tax could be the only way to strengthen EMS in Knox County. Streeter says the public safety tax is really the only option the state gives localities to pay for certain services. The Vincennes City Council has discussed implementing a safety tax before, but no action came from the discussion.
Streeter says that the idea of a public safety tax, with more specific detail will be discussed at the next Knox County Council meeting.
