Roger Grant Brittain, 86, of Petersburg, passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, in Jasper, Indiana. He was born July 4, 1935, in Otwell, Indiana, to Theodore and Stella (Teague) Brittain. Roger graduated from Otwell High School in 1953. He joined the United States Army in 1957 and proudly served until 1959. Roger married his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Brittain on Nov. 27, 1965. He was a retired ironworker and belonged to the Ironworkers Evansville Local 103. Roger was a member of the Petersburg Moose Lodge 1617, the Washington Eagles, a life member of the Petersburg VFW Post 3587, a more than 50-year member of the Glendale F&AM 461, the Scottish Rite, the Pike County Shrine Club, and the Hadi Temple.
Roger is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Padgett) Brittain; special friends, Susan (Mark) Davis and Mike Davis; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers John Taylor “JT” Brittain, Robert Brittain, Theodore “Boone” Brittain, Wilfred Brittain and Merlin Brittain; and his sisters, Inita Swinehart and Carolyn Brittain.
Services for Roger will take place at 2 p.m. EST Thursday, Oct. 14, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Pastor Bill Breidenbaugh will be officiating and military honors will be conducted at Otwell Cemetery by the Petersburg VFW. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Petersburg VFW Post 3587 and can be mailed to P.O. Box 217, Petersburg, IN 47567. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
