The Barr-Reeve Vikings Volleyball Team captured their first 3A Sectional Championship at Princeton on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Sullivan (25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-19) in the first match in the morning and then came back that night and defeated the Washington Hatchets 3-0 with scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 30-28. Washington advanced to the championship with a straight set win over Vincennes Lincoln in the semi-finals. With the win the Vikings improved their record to 22-8 now advance to the Charlestown Regional on Saturday and play Silver Creek whose record is 22-11. Greensburg faces Evansville Memorial in the other semi final Saturday at Charlestown. BR is one of the first teams in Girls Volleyball to win a Sectional Championship in three different classes.
Loogootee captured their own Class 1A Sectional championship on Saturday at Jack Butcher Arena with a straight set win over Vincennes Rivet in the title match. Loogootee will now face Trinity Lutheran in game two of the semi-finals back at Loogootee this Saturday. The first match will pit Springs Valley against Lanesville.
The Barr-Reeve Girls Team qualified for the Cross Country Semi-State with a 5th place finish at Pride’s Creek on Saturday. Abby Ballengee led the Vikings with an eighth place finish. Makenna Pruett was next in 22nd place. In the boys race Colton Stoll also qualified to run at Semi-State as he finished in 22nd place to lead the Vikings. The Boys team finished 10th overall as a team. Washington’s Matt Gray also advanced to the semi state with a 10th place individual finish in the regionals on Saturday. The Cross Country semi-state begins at 11:30am Saturday morning in Brown County.
