The Barr Reeve Vikings and Loogootee Lions will play in the Volleyball regionals tomorrow. The Vikings are at Charlestown for the 3A tournament. Catch live coverage at 11:30am tomorrow morning when Barr Reeve meets Silver Creek. At Loogootee in the 1A tournament, Loogootee meets Trinity Lutheran at 12 noon.
The Barr-Reeve Girls Team will compete in the Cross Country Semi-State tomorrow. Abby Ballengee led the Vikings with an eighth place finish at regionals, while Makenna Pruett was next in 22nd place. In the boys race Colton Stoll also qualified to run at Semi-State as he finished in 22nd place to lead the Vikings. Washington’s Matt Gray also advanced to the semi state with a 10th place individual finish. And from North Daviess, Giulia Matteotti will be participating. The Cross Country semi-state begins at 11am tomorrow morning in Brown County.
It’s been three months since the Tokyo Olympics and superstar gymnast Simone Biles still has a lot of recuperating to do. She appeared on the “Today” show to talk about her withdrawing from several competitions at the games and said that she is still afraid to do gymnastics. She had a case of the “twisties” during the games, where she became disoriented in mid-air and says that she still has a lot of work to do on her mental health. She’s currently touring with other gymnasts in the “Gold Over America” tour. The tour makes a stop in Indianapolis tonight at the former Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
With the college football season at the midpoint of the regular season, this weekend will provide crucial tests for Indiana’s major teams. The 25th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers host Wisconsin at Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday at 3 p.m. Eastern. The Boilers are ranked for the first time since 2007 after knocking off then-number two Iowa. Wisconsin is favored by a field goal, and has not lost to Purdue since 2003. Notre Dame and Southern California reignite their rivalry Saturday night in South Bend. The 13th-ranked Fighting Irish are touchdown favorites over the 3-3 Trojans, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Last season’s matchup in Los Angeles was canceled due to COVID-19, the first time since 1945 that Notre Dame and USC did not play. Indiana hosts fifth-ranked Ohio State in a primetime matchup at Bloomington’s Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers have not defeated the Buckeyes since 1988, and are 21-point underdogs for Saturday night’s 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
The Indiana Pacers are back in action Friday night in the nation’s capital against the Washington Wizards. The Blue and Gold are coming off a 123-122 season-opening loss Wednesday night in Charlotte. The Wizards opened the season Wednesday with a 98-83 win over the Toronto Raptors.
The Braves fell to the Dodgers big time yesterday on the west coast 11 to 2. Atlanta still holds a 3-2 series lead in the best of seven. Tonight, the ALCS resumes with Houston hosting the Red Sox. The Astros also have a 3-2 series lead.
