The Washington Hatchet Volleyball Program will begin the search for a new varsity head coach. After leading the program for the past four years, Coach Brett Matteson has announced his plans to step down starting next season. The Coach sited more time with family as his reason. The search for a new Coach will begin over the coming weeks.
Congratulations to the Golden Pride Marching Band at Washington High School. The band recently competed in the ISSMA State Competition at Franklin High School over the weekend, and finished as runner-up in their division. Job well done to Mr Burris and the Golden Pride Band.
The Washington Lady Hatchet Basketball team will be hosting their Hoops Hysteria night this Saturday from 7 to 9pm at the Hatchet House Gym. Admission is free, and this is your chance to meet this year’s team, win prizes, and have fun as we gear up for the upcoming season. The Lady Hatchets open the basketball season November 5th against North Knox.
The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Indiana Pacers 119-109 Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The defending champion Bucks got 30 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists from two-time MVP and reigning Finals MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. Milwaukee led by as many as 18 before the Pacers chipped away in the fourth quarter. Indiana returns to action Wednesday night against the Raptors in Toronto.
Indiana junior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis was named a First-Team Preseason All-American by the Associated Press Monday. The 6-foot-9 Greenwood native averaged 19.9 points and nine rebounds per game last season for the Hoosiers, which went 12-15 and lost the final six games of the season. Jackson-Davis elected to return for new IU coach Mike Woodson, who will look to guide his alma mater to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2016. Jackson-Davis was a All-Big Ten First Team pick last season, and is joined on the Preseason All-American team by Villanova’s Collin Gillespie, Johnny Juzang of UCLA, Gonzaga standout Drew Timme, and Illinois big man Kofi Cockburn.
Colts coach Frank Reich said he is very optimistic that wide receiver T.Y. Hilton will play this Sunday against the Titans. Hilton missed Indy’s win over the 49ers with a quad injury, and has played in just one of seven games this season. The Ghost returned from a neck injury October 17th against the Texans and had four catches for 80 yards before leaving late. Reich added that right tackle Braden Smith is making good progress after missing the last six games with a foot injury.
