Washington’s East Side Park will become the “Halloween Trail” this Sunday evening. In a presentation to the Washington Rotary Club yesterday, Washington Park and Recreation Superintendent Kip Kelly said that 20 local organization and businesses have joined together to provide area children with the safest possible Halloween experience. The Safe Stop will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday evening and run through 8 p.m. or whenever the candy runs out. This is a “drive-through” Safe Stop and there will be ample staff on hand to direct traffic so everyone can visit all the groups. Washington’s Mayor David Rhoads and Park Superintendent Kip Kelly say they are excited that so many local institutions have joined together to give the kids a fun and safe Halloween. Kelly says that the Parks Department is already looking at ways to improve the Halloween Trail for next year.
The one exception to the combined Safe-Stop is the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department. The Sheriff’s Department will host its own drive-through Safe Stop at the Sally Port on the west side of the jail complex at the corner of East Third and Walnut in Washington. The Sheriff’s Department Safe-Stop will also run from 5 pm to 8 pm Sunday evening.
Halloween is this Sunday, and in the City of Washington, official trick-or-treat hours have been set for Sunday evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. Residents who wish to welcome Trick-or-Treaters should have their porch lights on between 5 and 8 Sunday evening.
