Congratulations to the Washington Youth Football Champs in the kindergarten thru 2nd grade class. Washington claimed the trophy by defeating Eastern Greene in the Championship 12 to nothing. Great job to the team and coaching staff this season.
The Houston Astros fought back with a 9 to 5 win over the Atlanta Braves last night in the fall classic. The wins keeps Houston in the hunt, but the Braves hold a 3 to 2 series lead in the best of seven. Game six is tomorrow back in Atlanta.
Carson Wentz threw two interceptions late, and the Tennessee Titans beat the Indianapolis Colts 34-31 in overtime in a crucial AFC South showdown. The Colts are now three games back of the Titans in the AFC South with nine to play, and Tennessee holds the tiebreaker after sweeping the season series. Indy is 3-5, while the Titans are 6-2 and winners of four in a row. Indianapolis jumped out to a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter on a pair of touchdown passes from Wentz to Michael Pittman Jr. The Colts do not have much time to regroup, as Indy hosts the New York Jets on Thursday night.
The Bears dropped to 3 and 5 on the season with a 33 to 22 loss at home to the 49ers.
A California high school football team is in the hot seat over an epic blowout. On Friday night, Inglewood High whipped Morningside 106 to Zero. Yes, that’s 106 points to zero points. A running clock wasn’t even started until the second quarter and Inglewood went for a two-point conversion when the score was 104 to zero. The losing coach called it “a classless move.” Meanwhile Inglewood’s quarterback broke a state record with 13 touchdown passes. Both school and sports officials are calling out Inglewood’s lack of good sportsmanship.
The Indiana Pacers host the San Antonio Spurs Monday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, as both teams look to turn around their fortunes. Indiana is 1-6 and San Antonio is 2-4. The Pacers have dropped four in a row, while the Spurs ended a four-game skid Saturday night with a win at Milwaukee.
Notre Dame jumped up three spots to eighth in the college football AP Top 25 poll. The Fighting Irish held off North Carolina 44-34 in South Bend to improve to 7-1. Notre Dame jumped Michigan, Ole Miss and Iowa after all three teams lost Saturday. The top four of Georgia, Cincinnati, Alabama and Oklahoma remained unchanged, while Michigan State entered the top five with their win over the Wolverines. Notre Dame hosts Navy next Saturday, as the long-standing rivalry is renewed after the 2020 matchup was canceled due to COVID-19. Purdue will host fifth-ranked Michigan State at Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday afternoon, while Indiana goes on the road to play number nine Michigan.
Alex Bowman spun out Denny Hamlin in the final laps and went on to win in the NASCAR Cup Series at Martinsville Speedway. Bowman captured his fourth victory of the season and first at NASCAR’s shortest track, but had already been eliminated from title contention. The Championship Four for next weekend at Phoenix Raceway is set, and includes Hendrick Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott, along with the Joe Gibbs Racing duo of Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. The drivers eliminated Sunday were Brad Keselowki, Joey Logano, and Ryan Blaney, all with Team Penske, along with Kyle Busch of Joe Gibbs Racing.
