The Indianapolis Colts dominated early and beat the New York Jets 45-30 Thursday night at Lucas Oil Stadium. Defending AFC Offensive Player of the Month Jonathan Taylor rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns, while Carson Wentz threw for 272 yards and three scores. The Colts scored touchdowns on their first four possessions en route to a victory in their first primetime home game in nearly four years. Indianapolis rushed 260 yards on 30 carries, which is the highest one-game total in the NFL so far this season. The Colts jumped out to a 42-10 lead before three second half touchdowns by the Jets. New York third string quarterback Josh Johnson threw for 317 yards and three touchdowns, and the Jets had nearly 500 yards of total offense. Indianapolis is now 4-5, and enters a mini-bye week before taking on Jacksonville November 14th.
The Indiana Pacers begin a four-game road trip Friday night against the Portland Trail Blazers. The Blue and Gold have won two in a row after defeating the Knicks at home Wednesday night. Indiana is 3-6, while Damian Lillard and the Trail Blazers have struggled to a 3-5 start. The Pacers and Trail Blazers tip off at 10 p.m. Eastern in Portland.
Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson will attempt to qualify for the 2022 Indianapolis 500 for Chip Ganassi Racing, the Associated Press reported Thursday. Johnson competed on road and street courses for Ganassi in 2021, but has not yet raced on an oval in IndyCar. Gannasi told the AP that his team will field four full-time entries with a fifth car for Johnson at the Indy 500. The 46-year-old NASCAR legend underwent Rookie Orientation testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last month, but said at the time he would need to think further about if he wanted to race on ovals.
Purdue football will look to play the role of “Spoilermakers” once again when the Boilers host third-ranked Michigan State Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium. Purdue is one win away from bowl eligibility with a 5-3 record, including a win over number two Iowa earlier this season. Michigan State is 8-0 after coming from behind to beat Michigan last weekend. The Spartans are favored by a field goal for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. kickoff in West Lafayette. Notre Dame and Navy renew their rivalry at 3:30 in South Bend. The two programs did not play in 2020 due to COVID-19, the first time the rivalry game was not held since 1927. The eighth-ranked Fighting Irish are three touchdown favorites over Navy. Indiana faces a tall task Saturday night at Michigan. The Hoosiers are winless in the Big Ten and have not won in Ann Arbor since 1967. The Hoosiers are 20-point underdogs against the seventh-ranked Wolverines, with kickoff at 7:30 at the Big House.
