Harry Weathers

A beloved local WWII veteran left us on Veterans Day. Harry Weathers, a fixture in Elnora, Indiana, for all
of his nearly 97 years, passed away at Parkview Village Christian Care in Odon on November 11, 2021,
after participating in their Veterans Day program.
Harry was born on December 9, 1924, in Elnora, to Clarence and Myrtle (Ketchem) Weathers. He was the
fifth of their six children, and their only son. He was inducted into the US Army in March 1943, served
with the 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion, and was honorably discharged in June 1945. He then went to
work at NAD Crane and retired as supervisor of the Transportation Department in 1986. Harry met his
future bride, Margaret “Peg” Selba while both were working at Crane. They married on November 10,
1947, and enjoyed over 60 years of marriage until Peg’s death in 2008.
Left to cherish his memory are twin daughters: Lesa Smith (JR) of Fort Thomas, KY, and Leah Bonwell
(Riley) of Indianapolis, IN. Grandchildren: Kylen Miles (Nick) of Georgetown, KY, Claire Duvall (Alex) of
Alexandria, KY, and Zane Bonwell (Mickelle Bradley) of Lansing, MI. Great-grandchilden: Tripp Miles and

Bicknell 1421, and Disabled Veterans of America.
If you knew Harry, you would know his television was constantly on and tuned to either the western
channel (Gunsmoke or John Wayne) or CNN. He savored his sweet tea from the Longbranch, and he
loved to laugh and joke with his friends. He was a generous, kind, and decent man.
Harry would tell you he was blessed with a great life, long and full. He loved his twin girls with his whole
heart and never stopped missing his wife, Peg. He cherished his three grandchildren and adored his
three great-grandsons and great-granddaughter, who was named in memory of his late wife.
Funeral service will be Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00 pm, with visitation from 11 to 1, at Meng
