Health departments in central Indiana are reporting a limited supply of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine, which now has FDA approval for children ages 5 to 11.
Fishers Health Department Director Monica Heltz told WISH-TV, high demand for the vaccine was not surprising; what was surprising was the low supply.
“There’s a lot of parents in our community and many communities that have been anxiously awaiting the release of this pediatric vaccine. I guess for me, it was a surprise that the supplies have been constrained as they are,” Heltz said.
Other Indiana health departments are under similar duress. The Hamilton County Health Department hopes to open more appointments after receiving another shipment of the vaccine next week. Meanwhile, the Marion County Health Department says that despite high demand, they have enough doses to offer all the assigned clinics.
So far, more than 8,763 children in Indiana have received their first dose of the vaccine. If you’re looking to book an appointment for your child, head to ourshot.in.gov, to see where pediatric doses are being offered.
