Frank Sterling

Francis “Frank” Cleybourn Sterling, 84, passed away November 24, 2021 in Evansville, IN. He was born April 8, 1937 in Shoals, IN to Fielding and Minnie (Rowe) Sterling. Frank served in the United States Navy. Francis was aboard ship on The USS Perkins, USS Uhlmann, USS Henry B Wilson and USS Wiltsie.  A Vietnam Veteran who served 7 tours in Vietnam. Many accolades of Medals. Francis retired from the Navy as a Company Commander in August 1975 serving 22 years. Returned home to Southwestern Indiana with his Beautiful wife whom he met and fell in love with while serving our Country and their daughter. Francis was a member of the American Legion #121 Washington Indiana,VFW#3587 Petersburg Indiana, Honor Flight Of Southwestern Indiana Mission 9 August 2018, Member of BlueStar Mothers of Southwestern Indiana, and Purple Dad for Prince Army Indiana. Frank’s love for music he decided to form a band “The Country Rebels” with his friends. Later years played his harmonica with friends in nursing homes and played karaoke.
Frank is survived by his wife of 61 years, Genevieve Sterling; daughter, Carmen Sterling; son, Frank Watkins; grandsons, Jeffrey Francis (Crystal) Decker and James Gerald (LeAnna) Decker; 10 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Sterling; and sisters, Mary Jane Doane, Ernestine Earl, and Barbara Frey.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Harris Funeral Home is entrusted with care.
