A deputy with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was shot Friday morning, according to Indiana State Police.
At about 10:00 am, deputies went to serve a warrant on a man living in a tent along the Eel River, near State Road 59 south of Clay City.
When deputies closed in on the man, he came out of the tent and fired some shots, hitting a deputy in the leg.
The deputy, a 17-year veteran of the department, was given first aid and flown to an Indianapolis hospital by helicopter. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Several police agencies, including a SWAT team, surrounded the man.
He surrendered around 2:30 pm and was arrested.
